Arcopedico footwear was designed and patented in 1966 by Prof. Elio Parodi, founder of ROPAR, S.A. in Vila do Conde (Portugal). He is a specialist in anatomy and ergonomics, having graduated from the prestigious Zurich polytechnic in Switzerland.

The basic structure of Arcopedico footwear consists of a stretched upper whose volumetric density is carefully controlled and which is termed "Techno-Elastic," as well as a sole that is orthopedically designed to support the arch of the foot. The result is a shoe which provides the correct line for the vertical axis of the spine.
